Perspective
PERSPECTIVE
She smiles.
To some those smiles are as bright as the sun,
Pleasing everyone...
To some those smiles are well-meant smirks,
Hiding the evil that lurks...
It matters how we think,
Whether an object would float or sink,
For perspective has a way
Of changing in a blink.
Be it half a glass of water
Half empty or half full?
If one fails to answer so, did they forget
Or did they falter?
If someone is injured, are they weak,
Or the wound is simply painful?
It matters how we think,
Whatever it is that we say,
For perspective has a way
Of changing in a blink.
Swara Chandorkar
This was random. Nothing exactly inspired me to write it or even think of it. I was trying my hardest to fall asleep and I was like, "hey! One would think that I'm so happy I can't sleep, but someone else might think that I'm being haunted and that's why I can't sleep!" If you want to know what happened after that, just read the poem above. I didn't think of all of it that night, I later thought over the earlier lines and then the excitement of composing something all over again just hit me and I wrote some more.
Perspective plays a huge role in our life. For example, if I see a girl typing really, really fast on her phone, there are many ways in which I would be judging the situation. I may say that she is addicted to her phone. I may say that she must be typing something important, something that requires great urgency. I may even say that I wonder if she has got some sudden inspiration that she notes down. All of these different thoughts are nothing but perspectives.
a cat under different colorful lights. kind of representing perspective? I don't know, I just love cats and liked this.
When we say perspective, we usually think of the positive and negative perspectives. The ones who determine whether we are optimistic or pessimistic. The half full/empty example is the most common one so far. And it is really important. Most of the people give this example in order to convey the message that you should be positive and always focus on the bright side. But should you? Should you really? Let me make an adjustment. You should be positive and try to focus on the bright side. That made a huge difference. Staying positive is great, yes, but it doesn't mean that we should entirely separate ourselves from the bad things in life. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss, but knowledge brings sorrow. Therefore, we must have a little bit of both.
Here is a little something that is related to this post - Green green grasssssssssss
We mustn't let the bad things get to ourselves; we mustn't let them get under our skins. But then again, it's not good to have ourselves separated from everything except the good things. As much as it hurts to have it, there has to be a bad part in life. Something that challenges us, something that makes us stronger without us realizing it. I am drifting apart from the actual poem, but not too far.
I would like to end this with something that I have written in the poem itself.
It matters how we think,
Whatever it is that we say,
For perspective has a way
Of changing in a blink.
